Oh hey kids I decided to scan in the sketch along with the final for this next piece. It’s not very exciting. I came up with a handful of ideas, but wound up doing the first one I came up with… I didn’t really feel strongly about it, but I guess it gets the point across…and that’s about it. I could have gone with one of the ideas I liked more (or a new one) but I wanted to see how this turned out. The finish only took about two hours, so there’s that. ANYWAY, it’s for an article about postpartem depression. Sad lady + crib. WHO KNEW

Oh, here’s a doodle I did of the lab while at the lab.

I’m just finishing up the first round of assignments for the semester! Some of them were successful, others not so much… Here’s one that actually worked out pretty well for me. I’ve got some cleaning up to do, but here it is as of the critique:

MEEEOOOOOW.

Remember the paintings I posted a while back? Well, they’re all done! Well, they were, as of the end of last semester…and the next one is about to begin. I guess it’s time to show them all off! I’m not 100% satisfied with all of them. I’m probably going to wind up painting over some of them…or digging into them digitally until I’m happy. Anyway, here are the paintings, and the collages they’re based off of. Enjoy!

In the end, though, I think I like the collages more than the paintings. OH WELL.

The first design available for immediate purchase is my looooooongcat design:

I need to learn to buy sketchbooks that actually fit in my scanner. This one spread took six scans to put together.

It keeps me from scanning more pages at once, haha. Anyway I’ve been playing with the I-don’t-like-the-way-this-looks-so-i’m-just-gonna-throw-some-shit-on-top-of-it approach to sketchbooking…and in a 10×14 book, there’s a lot of room to do that… So I get fewer pages done. But bigger is better, right?
One of the things I like about working big and scanning at high resolutions is being able to see little bits of nonsense that are sometimes a lot more interesting than the piece at large. Here’s a bit of the above picture, at 100% in a 300dpi scan:

Yesss, our Library can be a little bit awesome sometimes. They’ve put their digital image collection of 1600 + pictures overrr here. It includes historic photos of Pratt, fashion plates, and tons of bookplates.
Here is one of them:

Look at these ladies move in a super old timey Phys Ed class:

fashion illustration is always mega-awesome:

Yeah. My own art is on its way once I buy myself a decent scanner. Any suggestions?

It looks like the computer ate the scans of what I did at the draw-a-thon last friday
Until then, you’ll have to live with two pieces I’m working on for Illustration. They’re not very Illustration-y… no matter, they’re fun. And part of a series of five! Comng soon.
