Painting Process

An idea for a new piece. First comes the SketchUp model of the space I want to use. Here it is in its beginning stages.

I’ve found SketchUp to be an invaluable tool to help me quickly produce the shapes I want and manipulate them easily. This model, which is about halfway to where I think I need it to be, is the result of only about 30 minutes of work! There’s no way I could have produced this image in proper perspective by hand as simply as this program allows me to. Hurrah for technology!

Once this model is completely fleshed out, my next steps will be to do some thumbnails for POV, palette, and symbols. Perhaps this should have come first, but often my idea for a space will occur first–especially in this case, where the room is being reproduced from real life.

Back to my Saturday work party!

Paintings from the Spring Semester

I’ve shuffled around some content on this site, and added a few paintings from this last semester. Soon to come is all of my design work. Until then, you can see what’s been added.

Here’s a few for your viewing pleasure:

I’m just finishing up the first round of assignments for the semester! Some of them were successful, others not so much… Here’s one that actually worked out pretty well for me. I’ve got some cleaning up to do, but here it is as of the critique:

Yes yes, I have a website! Check it out! Admire it! Link to it!

I also have this semester’s illustration work under professor Chang Park. The one here is my most recent assignment, a poster for a Broadway production of Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge. It’s probably been my most successful piece of homework so far.

As always, you can check out the rest of my work for Chang’s class on my flickr account, or just look at my favorites on my homepage.
